The B17 protocol/regime is much more complex than just swallowing apricot seeds. A pianist is usually the highest paid musician in an orchestra, the star of the ensemble. But without the other musicians in the orchestra, the music is not complete. While B17 is the star of the protocol, the treatment is strongly supported by a highly skilled “orchestra”, made up of 20-25 “musicians” – either a vitamin, supplement or nutrition. Together, they work together to finish off any cancer cell in the body.

The Taxing Timeline

The Ordeal Begins…..

September 4: The long journey from Johor Baru to the hospital near Subang.
September 5: Major colon surgery carried out.
September 13: Discharged from hospital.
September 19: Re-admitted, because of wound infection – fluids discharging from wound.
September 20: 2nd operation in a month to re-stitch the wound.
September 25: Developed breathing problems, doctors are concerned. Returned to ICU and will remain there for another 3 1/2 days. Heart rate: 128-130. Oxygen level (with oxygen aid): 96%
September 28: Back to a normal ward, breathing only slightly improved.
September 29: Doctors express grave concern over her continued gasping for air. One even opined that if the breathing gets worse, everybody should be prepared for the worst.
September 30: With almost no medical options left should the breathing become worse, I made a decision, with the approval of her three doctors, to start B17.

There’s Always Another Option…..

October 1: Hari Raya. Started 19-day B17 protocol/regime.
October 2: Breathing improves. Respiratory doctor expresses surprise at her recovery.
October 3: Heart rate drops from 130 to 110. Swelling in arms disappears.
October 4: Breathing without any oxygen aid. Heart rate: 105, oxygen (on her own steam): 98%.
October 5: All tubes removed except urinal tube (drip tube, oxygen tube, intravenous feeding tube).
October 6: Last tube removed (urinal tube). Stand-by surgeon writes “miracle” in medical log.
October 7: Heart rate: 100, oxygen 98-100%. Starts to walk, with assistance.
October 8: Swollen legs (from Sept 1) subsides completely. Continues with walking exercises.
October 9: Primary surgeon says she can be discharged by October 11. I chose to let her stay one more day in hospital, so that the physio can continue with the walking exercises.

October 12: Discharged.

DO READ: A World Without Cancer

Now Read This!

From the Oasis of Hope hospital:

Cancer is heavy-handed. There is nothing subtle at all about the presence of a malignant tumor in your kidney or lung. Cancer makes no attempt to veil its threat. It is a disease that gathers momentum quickly and attacks with frightening ferocity. Only a concerted and combined effort can repel such an attack. This is the principle behind the Metabolic Therapy my father pioneered.

My father believed that to defeat cancer, it was necessary to attack it from every possible angle. He understood the importance of both direct and indirect approaches. The foundation of the Metabolic Therapy is its multi-faceted approach. Yes, we do attack the tumor, but we also stimulate the immune system and address causal factors. Our total care approach requires the patient’s participation. Cancer treatment is not a spectator’s sport. The patient must be prepared for the fight. We go through a process of structuring a patient for success by providing the necessary resources to face the threat at the physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. There is no question that the alliance between body, mind, and spirit can even the playing field against cancer. In chapters that follow, I will take you through our newest therapies as well as mind/spirit medicine but let me begin with the foundational program my father designed to dismantle cancer’s strongholds. In this chapter, I will share how we can sensitize cancer to treatment, attack the tumor, cut off its supply lines, and take out cancer’s transportation system.

Let´s start with sensitizing the tumor. Did you know that cancer defends itself against attacks? Tumors can become resistant to chemotherapy, radiation or whatever else you throw at it. It would make sense that if you could dismantle cancer’s defenses, you could then take it out, right? What are the ways that cancer defends itself? One way is that tumors encapsulate themselves with blood vessels that are so restricted that antitumor agents can’t get through. Another way is that tumors amass high concentrations of a substance called glutathione. Glutathione is the element that makes tumors resistant to treatment. Is there a way to lower the levels of glutathione in tumors so that they would become sensitized to anticancer treatments? The answer is yes. For glutathione to be produced in the cells, it needs another substance called cysteine. Please continue with me on this trail that it took many years to identify by top researchers. Is there a way to lower the level of cysteine? Yes. Cyanide will deplete the supply of cysteine. But, isn’t cyanide a poison? Cyanide is toxic to our body but it will not make us sick in very low doses derived from a whole food source. You eat cyanide-rich food everyday if you eat apricots, pineapples, apples, or any of the other thousand cyanide-toting foods found in nature. The cyanide in these foods is present in a nutrient called amygdalin. Amygdalin can release cyanide in malignant cells resulting in depleting the supply of cysteine, thus diminishing the intracellular concentration of glutathione. This will sensitize the tumors to antitumor treatments including chemotherapy, Ozone therapy, and UV light.

We also use amygdalin to attack the tumor. The cyanide realeased by amygdalin is one of the best killers of malignant cells as well. Amygdalin has a double punch. It lowers cancers resistance to treatment and it releases cyanide to kill cancer cells directly. If you wish to read the technical explanation of how these two functions of amygdalin occur, please refer to appendices I and II and the end of the book.

If amygdalin can be so helpful, why aren’t more cancer treatment centers using it? The first argument is that it can be toxic because it contains cyanide. The second argument is that it doesn’t work.

Let’s talk about amygdalin’s toxicity first. We have used amygdalin with tens of thousands of patients since the early 1960s. You might say that we know a thing or two about amygdalin which is also known as laetrile and vitamin B17. The cyanide released by amygdalin does not reach toxic levels that can harm or even discomfort patients. But don’t accept my word as the only proof. A famous researcher named June de Spain conducted a laetrile toxicity study that was published in The Little Cyanide Cookbook (Am. Media). She took three groups of rats. Group one was fed white bread. Group two was fed whole wheat bread. Group three was fed laetrile. After three months, 75 percent of rats that were eating white bread were dead. The white bread survivors were at death’s door. The rats that were eating whole wheat bread were in good shape. The rats who were eating laetrile were all alive and in the best condition of the three groups. The conclusion of this FDA sponsored trial was that, “white bread is 70 times more toxic than laetrile.”

No, laetrile/amygdalin presents no risk of toxicity.

Its Called B17

I know a lot about B17 and its controversial past. I have heard about the Oasis of Hope hospital in Mexico. I know who Dr. Ernesto Contreras was. But I never expected B17 to be available in Malaysia. That was until I met Cheah, totally by accident, one lonely night in the hospital.

B17 has very likely saved a life.

I am a rational, educated individual. I do not believe in magical cures. I do not believe in voodoo, black or white magic or using helmets to knock the devil out of one’s head. I do not think too highly of bomohs or any medicine man promising a quick cure.

But I believe in B17 because I have personally witnessed, on a day-to-day basis, the almost magical improvement in the health of a person suffering from stage 4 colon cancer.

Evil Came in September

September 1, 2008. The pain in the lower right abdomen was something that just couldn’t be ignored. This was not one of those days where the pain would go away after a while. Eating was not a problem. In fact, she had a very good appetite. The pain never did leave her. Not during the day. Not during the night. It was almost evil.

Colon cancer is a strange beast. The polyp takes it own time to grow and in many cases, there are no symptoms at all. Many times, a person suffering from colon, or bowel cancer has no symptoms or pain for 5-6 years. A yearly colonoscopy is the only way to detect the cancer and when discovered, the chances of full recovery is more than 90%. Once the pain starts, it may be in its 3rd or 4th stage, with chances of a full recovery diminishing by the week.

In Rokiah’s case, the pain in the lower right abdomen started in late 2007. But like so many of us, we looked for easy ways to ease the pain – vitamins, health supplements, visits to the local medicine man (sinsehs) and for that matter, anyone else who promises relief without having to undergo more pain. The pain went away, but came back with a vengeance in September 2008.

When someone close to me was diagnosed with colon cancer very recently, I started to research on cancer. I went to the world’s greatest library – the internet, to look up the current cancer treatments available, and more importantly, the alternative treatments/cures available. It is unfortunate that in this day and age, the obsession with making money has made it confusing for a person looking for a real solution to these illnesses. One can never be sure whether the offered “cure” is real or just another money-making venture.

One very disturbing fact I came across was that the giant pharmaceutical companies, sometimes hand-in-hand with the government, have gone to great extremes to block cures that are not only genuine, but tested to be effective. Why? Because these big companies cannot patent and make money from these cures, since the sources of these cures originate from what God, through nature, has given us.

One such cure originated from Germany and is called the Budwig Diet or Budwig Protocol. I will let the following article do the talking for me. The article was written by an individual who like me, also wanted to know more about Budwig and credit goes to this person for the research done.

If this article has helped someone you love, let me know!

The Budwig Diet- Flaxseed Oil & Cottage Cheese

In my research, Dr Johanna Budwig’s name has been referred to on numerous occasions. The articles mentioned that Dr Budwig was using Organic Flaxseed Oil combined with Organic Low Fat Cottage Cheese in preventing and curing Cancer and Chronic Diseases. I would just shake my head in disbelief and, without giving it a second thought, move onto other research. I was not willing to take the time to investigate this protocol. It did not make any sense to me how this could possibly work. That was a big mistake.

If you are researching this website for a loved one, family member, or a friend who is suffering from a terminal or chronic disease this is one of the most important pieces of information I have come across during thousands of hours of research. Please take the time to read this carefully as this can be a life saving protocol.

If you are already familiar with the science on how the Budwig Diet works you may scroll directly down to (The Budwig Protocol and Diet Plan). There it will guide you in what to purchase and how to mix the organic flax oil and organic low fat cottage cheese as well as some explanation to the diet. To understand the full diet her book will have to be purchased. In Dr Budwig’s protocol there is much more than just flax oil and cottage cheese. If you are just now hearing about this protocol for the first time you need to read this paper in it’s entirety to understand how this protocol works in healing your body. This is a very, very powerful protocol when done properly and has healed thousands of people with chronic and terminal diseases.

One afternoon I decided to take the time to start researching Dr Budwig. I wanted to know who she was and learn more about her protocol. I had no idea that two months later, after reading three of her books translated from German to English, and combing the internet, I would still be looking at Dr Budwig’s work. I was trying my best to understand this protocol so I could pass it along to others. I believe I now understand why it appears to work so well. The following is what my research revealed.

Dr Budwig was born in Germany in 1908. She passed away in 2003 at the age of 95. She has been referred to as a top European Cancer Research Scientist, Biochemist, Blood Specialist, German Pharmacologist, and Physicist. Dr Budwig was a seven-time Nobel Prize nominee.

In Germany in 1952 she was the Central Government’s Senior Expert for fats and pharmaceutical drugs. She’s considered one of the worlds leading authorities on fats and oils. Her research has shown the tremendous effects that commercially processed fats and oils have in destroying cell membranes and lowering the voltage in the cells of our bodies, which then result in chronic and terminal disease. What we have forgotten is that we are body electric. The cells of our body fire electrically. They have a nucleus in the center of the cell which is positively charged, and a cell membrane, which is the outer lining of the cell, is negatively charged. We are all aware of how fats clog up our veins and arteries, and are the leading cause of heart attacks, but we never looked beyond the end of our noses to see how these very dangerous fats and oils are affecting the overall health of our minds and bodies. Dr Budwig discovered that when unsaturated fats have been chemically treated that their unsaturated qualities are destroyed and the field of electrons removed. This Commercial Processing of fats destroys the field of electrons that the cell membranes (60-75 trillion) cells in our bodies must have to fire properly. The fats ability to associate with protein and thereby to achieve water solubility in the fluids of the living body—all this is destroyed. As Dr Budwig put it, “the battery is dead because the electrons in these fats and oils recharge it. When the electrons are destroyed the fats are no longer active and cannot flow into the capillaries and through the fine capillary networks. This is when circulation problems arise.

Without the proper metabolism of fats in our bodies every vital function and every organ is affected. This includes the generation of new life and new cells. Our bodies produce over 500 million new cells daily. Dr Budwig points out that in growing new cells, there is a dipolarity between the electrically positive nucleus and the electrically negative cell membrane with it’s high unsaturated fatty acids. During cell division the cell and new daughter cell must contain enough electron rich fatty acids in the cells surface area to divide off completely from the old cell. When this process is interrupted the body begins to die. In essence, these commercially processed fats and oils are shutting down the electrical field of the cells allowing chronic and terminal diseases to take hold of our bodies.

A very good example would be tumors. Dr Budwig noted that “The formation of tumors usually happens as follows. In those body areas which normally host many growth processes, such as in the skin and membranes, the glandular organs, for example, the liver and pancreas or the glands in the stomach and intestinal tract—it is here that the growth processes are brought to a stand still. Because the dipolarity is missing, due to the lack of electron rich highly unsaturated fat, the course of growth is disturbed—the surface-active fats are not present; the substance becomes inactive before the maturing and shedding process of the cells ever takes place, which results in the formation of tumors.” She pointed out that this can be reversed by providing the simple foods, cottage cheese and flax seed oil, which revises the stagnated growth processes. This naturally causes the tumor or tumors present to dissolve and the whole range of symptoms which indicate a “dead battery are cured.” Dr Budwig did not believe in the use of growth inhibiting treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation. She was quoted as saying “I flat declare that the usual hospital treatments today, in a case of tumorous growth, most certainly leads to worsening of the disease or a speedier death, and in healthy people, quickly causes cancer.”

Dr Budwig discovered that when she combined Flaxseed oil, with its’ powerful healing nature of essential electron rich unsaturated fats, and cottage cheese, which is rich in sulfur protein, the chemical reaction produced makes the oil water soluble and easily absorbed into the cell membrane. I found testimonials of people from around the world that had been diagnosed with terminal cancer (all types of cancer), sent home to die and were now actually cured and living healthy, normal lives. Not only had Dr Budwig been using her protocol for treating cancer in Europe, but she also treated other chronic diseases such as Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Irregular Heart Beat, Psoriasis, Eczema (other skin diseases), Immune Deficiency Syndromes (Multiple Sclerosis and other Auto Immune Diseases), Diabetes, Lungs (respiratory conditions), Stomach Ulcers, Liver, Prostate, Strokes, Brain Tumors, Brain (strengthens activity), Arteriosclerosis and other chronic diseases. Dr Budwig’s protocol proved successful where orthodox traditional medicine was failing.

Since Dr Budwig mentioned strengthening of the brain, I believe not only Multiple Sclerosis, but also ALS “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease could also be significantly impacted with her protocol. I also believe that this protocol could have the greatest impact early into the disease, and could very possibly reverse these diseases entirely. Dr Budwig states, “A Swede has proved that (no brain function) can take place at all without three fold unsaturated fats. Without any doubt, every function of the brain—and this has been scientifically proved—needs the very easy activation effect of three fold unsaturated fats. The same applies to nerve functions and for regeneration within the muscle after strenuous muscle activity, in the so called oxidative recovery phase during sleep. This process requires the highly unsaturated, particularly electron-rich fatty acids in flax seed oil. So, when I wish to help a very sick patient, I must first give the most optimal oil I have. My opinion is flax seed oil.”

Dr Budwig pointed out in her book that she often took very sick cancer patients from the hospital with only hours or a few days left to live and had very good results with her protocol, most of the time. I would assume some patients she worked with were too badly damaged by the Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments. She pointed out that in some of these patients she would start their therapy with an enema of 500CCs of an oil mixture and “that their subjective awareness of well being increased immediately.” She pointed out that many could not urinate, produce bowel movements, or when coughing were unable to bring up the mucous, but once the protocol was initiated this started reactivation of the vital functions and the patients immediately began feeling better. The Budwig diet appears to allow cancer cells to start breathing again.

Here are a couple of testimonials I found quite interesting and thought I would share with you. These testimonials were found in Cliff Beckwith’s web site http://www.whale.to/a/beckwith.html. Cliff’s story and his recovery from Stage IV Prostate Cancer using Budwig’s Protocol is also there along with other cancer testimonials including lung, colon, breast, ovarian, brain cancer and many more.

1. In a Christmas letter, Dec. 1993, we heard that a friend of ours in Wooster, Ohio, was having a bout with ovarian cancer. The blood test for that condition is GAC 125 and the normal is 35 or below. Her count was 75. Later I learned she’d visited my sister in September and was very apprehensive. She’d had about 4 rounds of chemo and couldn’t take that. We sent information about Flaxseed oil in our Christmas letter.

Joanie is an RN and she and her husband had been missionaries in Sri Lanka. They bought the books and started using Flax oil. In February she was feeling fine. On May 12, 1994, she had a checkup and the count was 2 and she was praising the Lord. In October 1994 she had another physical and now the count was 1. Since then there’s been no further indication of cancer.

2. We were asked by a friend to send a tape to his son whose wife was badly off with cancer. We have just learned that the daughter-in-law had cancer through her lymphatic system and her brain. She used 4 Tbsp. of oil a day and today the tests for cancer are normal. The doctors can’t figure out what’s happened and she is not saying anything. However, her husband, mother, father and sisters are all using Flax oil for prevention.

Here’s a testimonial for man’s best friend, and I’ve read where it works on cats to.

3. Several weeks ago a man called us from South Bend, Indiana. He said, “You’ll enjoy this. I have a 13 year old dog. He has cancer. His eyes were dull and he was so weak he couldn’t lift his leg. I should have put him to sleep, but I didn’t want to. I put 1 Tbsp. of Flax oil and a half cup of cottage cheese in his bowl and he wolfed it down. I did that three times a day for ten weeks. Today he’s running all over the place, his eyes are bright, his coat is shiny and he’s gaining weight.” That was the 2nd dog I’d heard of in 3 days that showed improvement from using Flax oil. The other is owned by my cousin’s daughter.

This second set of testimonials was taken from a FlaxSeedOil2 Chat group. The purpose of this group is for information and discussion of Dr. Johanna Budwig’s Oil-Protein Diet and Protocol. FlaxSeedOil2 appears to be one of the best sources of reliable information on the Budwig Protocol in the English-speaking world. Subject: Re: [FlaxSeedOil2] mom dx with nsclc 8/03

Hello Elena,

I feel real good about my case and will very soon have tests

done that should give a definitive answer to how I am doing. I was diagnosed on Oct. 8, 2002 with a large breast cancer – “lobular infiltrating carcinoma”. I began that same day on FO/CC. My cancer was very painful at first – in fact that is when I discovered it, was when the pain awakened me at 5:00 a.m. I started that same day eating FO/CC (Flax Oil/ low fat cottage cheese). By the middle of November my pain was all gone and I have remained pain free. The tumor has shrunk dramatically, and my doctor was even amazed. On October 14, I will have a C.A.T. scan. I have already had a P.E.T. scan. The results of both of these scans will tell me the whole story.

With the P.E.T. scan, they injected into my veins sugar and radio-active-isotopes. The sugar goes to all spots in my body where there is any cancer, and will even show how large it is. It can be tracked by the radio active isotopes. I can still feel a small ridge and I have wondered if that is scar tissue (since it has been so long since I have felt any pain). Well, now when I get these results, I will know if it is still cancer or just scar tissue. I will post to this group whatever my results are.

I had no doubts about beginning on the FL/CC regimen, as my husband had a very large and metastasized pancreatic cancer, in 1994.

He took many things in the alternative field, but NOTHING IN the medical field, (unless you want to consider his 3 weeks of IV treatments of Laetrile)

He also took FO/CC 3 times a day.

To his surgeon’s astonishment, he was well in 5 months. After the surgery, the surgeon had told us that he would die and that he might live 3 to 6 months – 3 being most likely.

He had gotten ill at the end of December, 1993 and was in and out of the hospital until May 25, he had exploratory surgery and got the grim reports I reported above. But after we got home and got him on the juicing, he just began getting better. I was making fresh vegetable juice and giving him 12 ounces about every 2 hours. And we followed the diet scrupulously – no meat, absolutely no pork, no sugar, no processed foods of any kind, etc. etc. and he just kept getting better.

Finally in November 1994, I wrote to the surgeon and ask him if he would schedule a CT scan for when we had an appointment on December 5, 1994.

He did that and when he came to give us the report, he was just shaking his head. He said “I don’t know what to tell you folks, but there is no cancer in there. I even had the radiologist come back and study that with me and we can see nothing abnormal in there of any kind.” So with that kind of encouragement, I felt confident to do basically the same thing. Except that in the meantime, I have learned a lot more about FO/CC and so I am going mostly all the way with that. I guess you could say I have put all my eggs in that one basket. I know this is a long message and I am sorry. I hope it helps your mother. My husband was 54 the year he got sick. He is still well and still with me today.

Hope this helps, Nan

2. There is a melanoma case in Dr. Budwig’s book “Der Tod des Tumors” (The Death of the Tumor) p.85.

I will give a partial and lose translation of it and paraphrase the first paragraph:

A Mrs. Harriett had a malignant melanoma cut out of her thigh. About one and a half years later she had lymph node metastasis at her left temple, which was treated with radiation. Four months after that she had lymph node metastasis at her left neck which were also brought under control with radiation. Two months after that she had several skin metastasis over her body. That is when she came to Dr. Budwig, evidently on her own. What follows are excerpts of a letter from the woman’s doctor to Dr. Budwig:

“A patient of mine, Mrs. Harriett, has recently been treated by you…” A detailed history with dates follows as outlined above without dates. “…After your treatment, all lymph nodes and skin metastasis were in remission. Also, all blood test indicators were normalized. I have never seen this happening with metastasized malignant melanoma. I would be extremely thankful if you could tell me which therapy you used. Since I have another patient with the same illness, I would be glad to send her to you so as to extend her life. On the other hand, I would naturally also gladly treat this patient here if you would instruct me of the method you used.”

The above information I found intriguing, but I still questioned why combining flax seed oil and cottage cheese together was the impact on the body so intensive? I believe I have found the reason and it’s mentioned below in several different excerpts from her book.

The following excerpt is from Dr Budwig’s book Flax Oil As A True Aid Against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer And Other Diseases which was translated from German to English. This book is a must read for anyone trying to heal themselves from a terminal or chronic disease.

Dr Budwig states “What we need in Europe today, in Germany as well as in Switzerland, America, and France, what we really need are electron rich highly unsaturated fats. The moment two unsaturated double links occur together in a fatty acid chain, the effects are multiplied and in the highly unsaturated fats, the so called “linoleic” acids, there is generated a field of electrons, a veritable electrical charge which can be quickly conducted off into the body, thus causing a recharging of the living substance—especially of the brain and nerves. It is exactly those highly unsaturated fatty acids which play a decisive role in the respiratory functioning of the body. With out these fatty acids, the enzymes in the breath can not function and we asphyxiate, even when given extra oxygen, as for examples in hospitals. The lack of these highly unsaturated fatty acids paralyses many vital functions. Primarily, it cuts off the air we breath. We can not survive without air and food and we cannot survive without these fatty acids—that was proven long ago.”

Dr Budwig, in her book, brought up other areas of interest and how electron rich fats affect other vital functions of the body. I will mention them, but will not go into any detail, as one may purchase her books to learn much more than presented in this paper.

The lack of electron rich unsaturated fats affect;

Respiratory enzyme function– It is basically proven that highly unsaturated fatty acids are the undiscovered decisive factor in achieving the desired effect of cellular respiratory stimulation.

All glands of the body

Brain Function– Including mental and spiritual

Scholastic performance of children

Function of the Heart– Proper firing of the heart

Marital infertility

Moral and behavior problems

Human sexual relationships

Cell division

Formation of tumors

Ingestion of wrong fats– Humans will eat six times their normal amount of food

Dr Budwig, in her book, also brought up the relationship between the Fats Syndrome, Electrons, Photons, and Solar Energy provided by the Sun.

She pointed out that the sun is an inexhaustible source of energy and an element of life that affects the vital functions of the body. This, in part, is due to the photons in sunlight which are the purest form of energy, the purest wave, and in continual movement. Dr Budwig states, “electrons are already a constituent of matter, even though they are also in continual movement and that electrons love photons, attracting each other due to their magnetic fields. There is nothing else on earth with a higher concentration of photons of the sun’s energy than man. This concentration of the sun’s energy—very much an iso-energetic point for humans, with their eminently suitable wave lengths—is improved when we eat food which has electrons which in turn attract the electro-magnetic waves of sun beams, of photons. A high amount of these electrons which are on the wave length of the sun’s energy, are to be found, for example, in seed oils. Scientifically, these oils are even known as electron–rich essential highly unsaturated fats. But, when people began to treat fats to make them keep longer, no-one stopped to consider the consequences of this, for the existence and higher development of the human race. These vitally important amounts of electrons, with their continual movement and wonderful reaction of light were destroyed.”

Dr Budwig found when she treated patients and had them lie in the sun she noticed they started feeling much better and became rejuvenated. She referred to the sun as having a stimulating effect on the secretions of the liver, gall bladder, pancreas, bladder and salivary glands. Dr Budwig also stated “Matter always has its own vibration, and so, of course, does the living body. The absorption of energy must correspond to one’s own wave length.” It appears apparently that sunlight is absolutely essential for the stimulation effect of the vital functions of the mind and body, contributing to the factors which allow the body to heal itself. Dr Budwig mentioned that doctors tell patients and cancer patients to avoid the sun as they can’t tolerate it and that is correct. She says once these patients start on her oil-protein nutritional advice for two or three days which means they have been getting sufficient amounts of essential fats, they can then tolerate the sun very well. She said the patients then tell her how much better they feel as their vitality and vigor is re-stimulated.

The last of the points mention by Dr Budwig and maybe the most important, is the electrons in our food serve as the resonance system for the sun’s energy and are truly the element of life. Man acts as an antenna for the sun. The interplay between the photons in the sunbeams and the electrons in the seed oils and our foods, governs all the vital functions of the body.

This has to be one of the greatest discoveries ever made as this combination promotes healing in the body of chronic and terminal diseases. In her book Dr Budwig states “Various highly trained and educated individuals are dismayed and irritated by the fact that serious medical conditions can be cured by cottage cheese and flaxseed oil.”

The mixing of the oil and cottage cheese allows for the chemical reaction to take place between the sulfur protein in the cottage cheese and the oil, which makes the oil water soluble for easy absorbsion into your cells.

The Budwig Protocol

Only use Flax Oil from the refrigerated section of your health food store. Never use capsules, flakes or flax oil from the shelves. It must be refrigerated and check the expiration date to make sure it has not expired. I would not use High Lignum Flax Oil because the taste is not clean and you can not tell if it is rancid. They have left the husk from the processing of the seeds in the bottom of the bottle, leaving less product. You want good clean tasting oil and no flavoring added as some oils are doing.

The mixing ratio is two tablespoons of cottage cheese to one tablespoon of oil. Mix only the amount you are consuming at one time so it is mixed fresh each and every time. One example would be to mix (4) tablespoons of cottage cheese to (2) tablespoons of flax oil, consumed twice daily or more depending on the severity of the health condition, one is attempting to address. One should probably start slowly with the oil, maybe just once a day and work their way up letting the body adjust to the protocol. The oil and the cottage cheese must be thoroughly mixed at a low speed, using an Immersion Blender, blending until a creamy texture with no standing oil is achieved. The mixture should then be immediately consumed.

We have always recommended using the immersion [stick or wand like]
mixer for the Flax Seed Oil and Cottage Cheese. Here is a link to photos of an immersion mixer http://tinyurl.com/2wwte7.

One may want to consider sprinkling a tablespoon or two of freshly ground flax seed over top of the freshly mixed flax oil and cottage cheese mixture. Mix this in by hand. This super charges the protocol. Do not buy pre-ground flax seed as the flax seed goes rancid 15 minutes after grinding. Brown or Golden whole flaxseed is available at the health food stores and either will work. You may grind up the fresh flax seed with a small coffee grinder. Store the seeds in the refrigerator and grind fresh each time.

You may also stir in with a spoon 2-3 tablespoons of organic lowfat milk for a creamer mixture. This can be mixed in by hand after the initial blending. The mixture can be flavored differently every day by adding nuts, preferably organic such as pecans, almonds or walnuts (not peanuts), banana, organic cocoa, organic shredded coconut, pineapple (fresh), blueberries, raspberries, cinnamon, or (freshly) squeezed fruit juice. It’s usually best to place the fresh fruit on top of the completed mixture and enjoy as its own meal. Try your best to obtain organic fruit when possible. Many times this can be found frozen when not in season.

Dr Budwig pointed out that people who are suffering from Chronic or Terminal disease should work themselves up to consuming 4 – 8 Tbs of the oil daily. Usually the higher limits 6 – 8 Tbs were for people with cancer. She stated, people with Liver or Pancreatic Cancer etc, may have to work up very slowly with the oil and possibly only start with 1 teaspoon at a time giving their body time to adjust. Dr Budwig pointed out that cancer patients once starting the protocol and getting it under control must continue with a maintenance dose to prevent reoccurrence. A maintenance dose is considered (1) Tbs of the oil per one hundred pounds of body weight. The Budwig Diet takes time to work and in the event of cancer, tumors, etc may take 3-6 months to see results. Many other health issues may respond much faster.

Also here is a very good YouTube Video which actually shows how to make the Flax Oil and Cottage Cheese mixture correctly. When starting the protocol you would not want to make such a large amount at first, as shown in the video.

Here’s the link to the YouTube page.

If you are Lactose Intolerant you may want to try the following. Since commercial milk is pasteurized, beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the milk and dairy products are destroyed. This has led to a number of people having difficulty in tolerating quark or cottage cheese.

Dairy is an important component in Dr. Budwig’s Oil-Protein Diet.

Because good substitutes are hard to find, it is worthwhile for those

who are lactose intolerant to try different ways of tolerating dairy.

Some possibilities (in no particular order):

Use raw milk and raw milk products if you can get them.

Use goat’s milk instead of cow’s milk products.

Take the enzyme Lactase with quark or cottage cheese.

Try Nancy’s Cottage Cheese which is made with lactic cultures.

Make yogurt quark (recipe under “Foods” in the files)

Make kefir quark (straining kefir to get a cream cheese consistency)

Get kefir grains, make kefir, remove grains, and strain through fine muslin cloth.

To learn more, do a Google search for “kefir” it will get you many hits.

FSO2 member Cheryl du Toit says this about kefir in message #29710:

“Kefir cottage cheese (or quark) is most certainly our solution for lactose intolerant people. It works like a charm.”

If one does not wish to make kefir, it can be purchased from the health food store in the refrigerated section. Organic Kefir comes in a liquid and the oil may be stirred into the kefir and consumed. It tastes very good. Make sure the oil is totally dissolved into the kefir before consuming. You may want to check with the health food store and see if they have a kefir cheese similar to cottage cheese which should work, as long as the flax oil blends in and does not float back to the top.

In the case of a person with a feeding tube one could mix flax oil into the organic kefir by hand as mentioned above. Then pour into the feeding tube. Again, this can be done using ¼ cup kefir to 1 tablespoon of the flax oil and given through out the day at different times. You may be able to use even a little more oil with the ¼ cup kefir. One may have to play with the mixture to get the desired results. Make sure there is no oil floating on top of the kefir before pouring into the feeding tube.

Dr Budwig noted prior to administering her protocol she had observed blood analysis of seriously ill cancer patients which showed a strange greenish-yellow substance in the place of the healthy red oxygen carrying hemoglobin. She found that their blood, without exception, was deficient in substances called phosphatides and lipoproteins. It has also been found that most people have blood that is 80% deficient in Omega 3. Dr Budwig found that cancer patient’s blood, after three months of using her protocol, returned to bright red and the tumors began disappearing. Weakness and anemia disappeared and the life energy was restored. Symptoms of cancer, liver dysfunction, and diabetes were completely alleviated. It has been mentioned in several articles that once a chronic or terminal disease has been brought under control or into remission the amount of flax oil may be reduced to (1) tablespoon per hundred lbs. of body weight for maintenance. To prevent reoccurrence of the cancer one should stay on the maintenance dose.

If yogurt is used in place of the cottage cheese it will require 3 times more yogurt to be consumed than cottage cheese as it lacks the protein density of cottage cheese. Even then, this may not be as effective. There is some question, as Dr Budwig never addressed this issue. The yogurt will have to be (live cultures, not the kind in the supermarket). An example of using the yogurt would be ¾ cup of yogurt to 1 tablespoon of flax oil.

The following items listed below should be avoided on this diet.

The reason one needs to exclude these items from his / her diet is that they interfere with the diet by lowering the voltage field in the cells.

Sugar

All animal fats

All meats

Margarine

Butter

Salad dressing oils- exception extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar or lemon

Foods high in Preservatives

Dr Budwig Diet Plan

Dr Budwig has a diet plan that is available in her cook book, The Oil Protein Diet Cook Book– It can be purchased from www.amazon.com for around $10.00.

The following is an example of the protocol given in Dr. Budwig’s book.

Most people begin gradually adding healthy foods & liquids and eliminating damaging ones. The diet seems simple, but foods are powerful and can damage or heal a person. This protocol has over a 90% success rate, with all kinds of cancer patients, according to Dr. Budwig, and those who studied and reported on her work in Germany over a 50 year period. Many research studies done in the last ten years support the cancer-fighting value of the foods, juices, sun exposure, and relaxation which Dr Budwig recommended. There are many testimonials in the files of the FSO2 group written by members who have regained their health by following this protocol after being diagnosed with cancer-many terminal. To see the files, click here.

For diet details see: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/FlaxSeedOil2/message/33782 The following are some excerpts from the above message link.

To start the diet, it helps to have 3 appliances. One is a coffee bean grinder to grind the whole brown flaxseeds sold in health food stores or online. In Dr Budwig’s protocol she used 2 to 3 tablespoons daily of the ground up flax seed. The flax seeds should be ground and used immediately. They must be consumed within 15 minutes of grinding or considered rancid. They can be used in cereals, oatmeal, shakes etc.

The 2nd appliance is an immersion hand-held mixer, a somewhat
stick-shaped mixer, to blend the flaxseed oil [FO] and the cottage
cheese [CC] together so that they become one food, making the oil
water-soluble and more absorbable to the cells of the body.

The 3rd appliance needed is a vegetable juicer. A masticating-type may give a more healthful juice than a centrifugal type. Purchasing a vegetable juicer is absolutely essential.

Patients with liver, gallbladder or pancreatic cancer, may need to start with a lesser amount of the oil and build up slowly to Dr Budwig’s recommended dosage. A transitional diet can be found in the FSO2 files or in Dr Budwig’s book.

SUNSHINE – Sun on the skin is very healthful for vitamin D & other benefits but avoid burning. If you feel up to having some EXERCISE; INDIVIDUALIZE IT ACCORDING TO YOUR STRENGTH NEVER OVER DO IT. Dr. Budwig did not push the idea of exercise, she felt that one needs rest to heal. So, take caution. [For those who can exercise, besides walking, a rebounder is beneficial for the lymph system, heart & circulation. RELAXATION IN THE SUN IF POSSIBLE to relieve stress is healing – nature, music, chat, laughter.[On days when you cannot be in the sun, high-quality cold-pressed cod liver oil offers vitamin D & other benefits]

DR BUDWIG STRESSED THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO AVOID UNHEALTHY FOODS & SUBSTANCES such as hydrogenated fats, animal fats, sugar, white flour, preservatives, chemicals and processed foods. Avoid leftovers – food should be prepared fresh and eaten soon after preparation to get the health-giving electrons & enzymes-within 15-20 minutes. At least 3x a day drink a warm liquid, such as green or herbal teas, sweeten only with raw honey. Keep a food diary. Avoid stress and anxiety; take time to relax & enjoy each day. Listen to beautiful music, laugh, do deep breathing, connect with nature, and spend time with people you like. Dr Budwig spoke about the damaging effects of stress.

Also, she did not include supplements or drugs in her protocol. Some
supplements, especially high amounts of antioxidants, can interfere
with how well the diet works, as can some drugs.

Danny – Oh Boy!

Well, +3 was the winning score at the 2008 British Open at Royal Birkdale. So every golfer in the world’s oldest golf major played over par. But take your hat off to Padraig Harrington – he became only the fifth player in the past 50 years to repeat as Open champion, adding his name alongside legends such as Tiger Woods, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino and Arnold Palmer. Now we are left wondering what Tiger would have scored if he had played. Of course we will never know and indeed, it would be an exercise in futility to talk about something that did not happen. Interesting to see who was second – Ian Poulter, the guy who recently said he is as good as Tiger. It this was true, he would have won, wouldn’t he? And 53-year old Greg Norman was only 9 holes away from becoming the oldest ever major champion. This is the guy who once said, when asked to comment on the newly-turned-pro Tiger Woods, that Tiger would fade away, like many before him. It was Norman who faded away on the back nine at Birkdale. A former world number one, Norman constantly fell apart at majors with his most egregious choke job coming in the 1996 Masters, when he entered the final day with a six-stroke lead over Nick Faldo, and lost. It was no different at Birkdale although the circumstances were less dramatic.

Talking about uselessness, our Danny Chia did not even make the cut, and was +23 after two days (76, 87). Remember the hoo-ha the local media (golf magazines included) made when he qualified for this Open? And there must be something wrong when the qualifying tournament is played in almost windless conditions at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore when the Open is played on a course where the wind was so strong, it moved Greg Norman’s ball on the putting surface. Not once, but twice. Surely the Asian Tour can play this qualifier on a course with some breeze?

As usual, it was the greatest thing for Malaysian golf when Danny won the qualifier at Sentosa. The newspapers went wild and the golf magazines devoted pages to our hero, painting him as the man who would make Malaysian golf proud. After all, he wouldn’t mess up two opportunities to play at the British Open, would he? Even Danny himself was confident, as he declared after his qualifying win, “I feel proud to be the only Malaysian at the Open. It always feels good to be in the same event with the world’s best golfers and it’ll be my goal to play well at Royal Birkdale.”

Looks like he needs to be more serious in setting goals. For the sake of the local media and the golf magazines.

Free Golf

Background

Besides running my management training business, I also used to write for a golf magazine – a passion thing. I stopped writing recently to spend more time on my business. I have however been asked by the magazine’s Publisher to write a series of articles on the theme “Destination Malaysia” for upcoming issues of the magazine. I haven’t decided to do it.

The Article/s

1. Articles on a particular Malaysian state, with its focus on the state’s golf courses (obviously!). By and large, I choose the state, and the golf courses I want to cover.

2. For each state, I will play, photograph and write about 3-4 golf courses. These course reviews will be incorporated into a larger article that will feature the state’s places of interest (including the good food found there).

3. For every golf course that I review, I am given a flight for four golfers (18 holes), plus the cost of buggies, FOC. This has always been the case when I used to actively write golf course reviews for the magazine.

Why I am still undecided

1. Traveling to these places takes time, and will require an overnight stay in most cases. I may not be able to spare the time.

2. I do not like driving to these places alone.

3. Its difficult to play 18 holes alone. There are a lot of takers when the golf course is in the Klang Valley, not quite so when its far away.

What I am looking for

1. Individuals who can hit a decent golf shot and won’t embarrass themselves (and me) on the golf course. BTW, I am a lousy golfer so you do not need to be a single handicapper. For these people, its free golf at different golf courses (plus good food too). You may also get your picture published in the articles I write (I will say this is so-and-so, my good friend, standing beside the best Assam Laksa stall in Sungei Petani…)

2. Obviously, you must have the time to play on weekdays. So retirees or individuals with time on their hands would be the perfect target market.

3. Individuals who love driving out of town. All petrol expenses will be reimbursed (not wear and tear, sorry).

Renumeration

1. Other than the free golf and accommodation (if needed), nothing much else I am afraid. I am not paid thousands of ringgits for this – its a passion thing, remember?

2. If its a small meal, I do not mind treating. For more expensive meals, we go dutch. But I suspect most meals will be free for you too.

3. You will have the opportunity to take photos on the golf course as we will be authorized to do that. I only carry a P & S on the golf course when taking photos of the layout’s holes – difficult to carry anything heavy when you are trying to play golf, take photos and visualizing what to write later – all at the same time. But I have become quite an expert at this though.

Next Step

1. I have chosen the nearest states from Kuala Lumpur to start with – Negeri Sembilan and Malacca. I have also decided on the golf courses that I will review:

SIGC (Seremban International Golf Course)
Sri Menanti
Gemas Golf Resort

(all three are pretty decent courses and very playable)

A Formosa
Orna

2. If I start, the first review will be in July (this month) and the deadline to finish all 5 courses is mid-August – I need time to do the writing. Article will appear in September issue onwards.

A Tale of Two Eees

Update:

Well, a few months after this article, it would seem there are others who agree that the Eee is one smart computer.

“ASUS’ Multiple Award-winning and Bestselling Netbook Chosen for Its Innovation and Market Disruption

ASUS’ Eee PC™ has been named Forbes Asia’s Product of the Year for 2008, right after being crowned Stuff Magazine’s Gadget of the Year and Computer of the Year. In justifying its selection, Forbes hailed the Eee PC™ for “its innovation and disruption”, and added that the “ultraportable” netbook had “changed the global PC industry”. This new addition to the Eee PC’s™ mantle joins numerous other awards chalked up in the media, design and industry circles over the past year, most notably NBC.com’s Best Travel Gadget and the prestigious G-Mark Award.”

I have never really loved Windows. Having used the very first Apple computers (they didn’t call them Macs then), I always thought that Windows is a poor man’s copycat version of the slick Apple operating system. And I still think this way even with the release of Windows’ latest incarnation, Vista. Still copycats.

Windows on a PC just takes too long to start and too long to shut down. Viewing videos is also a hassle, necessitating, at times, that you become a codec expert just to get the damn video to play. Plug and Play on Windows should actually be Plug, Figure Out, then only maybe can Play. And don’t even get me started on the virus thing.

Macs are better in some ways. They start fast, and shut down even faster. They behave very intelligently (compared to Windows), enabling you to perform routine tasks with ease, minus the stupid warnings Windows takes pride in issuing. But Macs have today become too slick. Slick designs and slicker advertising have made Apple big headed and they now think they have the God-given right to sell their products at premium prices.

So I had a little problem when I went shopping for a small, light computer that I can easily carry into the training classroom without straining my arms or hurting my back. Small and light in today’s computer world equals expensive. Sony, for example, sell their UX series UMPCs (ultra mobile PC) at ridiculously high prices. When I had the chance a year ago to buy a used Sony UX180P (it had the most unusable keyboard), I was quite shocked to learn that it was selling new for RM7000-8000! And the other small and light PC brands were no cheaper either.

On the Mac side of the pond, there was no problem because you had no choice – all the Macs were heavy buggers. That was until they introduced the Mac Air, touted to be the world’s slimmest notebook. Again, slick branding pushed the price to over RM6000 for the cheapest model. And for that money, you did not even get a DVD drive. Even worse, the battery was screwed on and you couldn’t remove it even if you did not want to use it – of course, in Apple’s advertising, they say that you get an integrated battery. Integrated my foot, its screwed on and only Apple can remove it.

Still, I use a Mac at home. I went from Apple to PCs and back to a Mac when they started using Intel processors. In the training classroom, I used a PC notebook because whether you like it or not, 99% of the training world over here use PCs and its just easier to go with the flow from a compatibility point-of-view. But since I did not want to buy a small and light notebook that costs a bomb, I started to look at a machine that would soon become a worldwide bestseller.

Asus’s Eee PC 701 (http://eeepc.asus.com/global/) caught my attention because, for the first time ever, a company has produced a small and light, extremely capable computer that is going to sell for less than RM1300 and weighs less than 1kg (0.89kg)! At that price, one would be forgiven if the word “toy computer” comes to mind. The cynics will surely question how good a UMPC can be when it costs only RM1299 (for the Eee Pc 701) and RM1199 (for the Surf model without a webcam). To keep it sweet and short, the Eee PC 701 is very good, and kg-for-kg, ringgit-for-ringgit, it is the best value in computerland. Not only has Asus created a compelling value-for-money superlight notebook, they have thrown in more than a few goodies in their lightweight wonder. The 701 uses flash memory (and many will grumble about its meagre 4gb memory) which means no spinning hard disks, which means your saved info will be safely retained in your computer for a long time. An external memory/card reader slot enables extra memory space through cheap SD cards. If you have an obsession for large memory space, you can always hook the 701 to an external hard disk.

So what is so good about the Eee? Since mine came with Linux (a version called Xandros customized for the Eee), the 701 starts quickly without fuss and shuts down in a jiffy. Also, Asus has pre-loaded some 40 programs into the 701, including the open source Open Office that will open and edit all your Microsoft Office files. Games and learning programs for kids, PIM software, an instant messaging client and even Skype are included. Sorry, no Photoshop or iTunes will run on this machine with the Linux OS. And by the way, I am hoping that free, open software like Open Office (even Linux) will one day kill off Windows and all those pay-through-your-nose so-called original software. The wi-fi (the Eee does not have bluetooth) on the 701 is extremely efficient – quickly locating any wi-fi source within seconds and enabling instant web browsing through the included Firefox browser. And the 701 comes with three usb ports, compared to the two I have on my RM5000+ Mac!

Downsides? There are a few. There is the 7 inch screen, similar to a few other UMPCs like the twice-the-price Kohjinsha (http://www.kohjinsha.com.sg/). Some web pages won’t display in full. To some, the Linux operating system may be too unfamiliar but there’s good news – Windows XP runs on the 701 without problems. Maybe the lack of bluetooth will also be a minus for some but you can always get a bluetooth dongle. And for heavy Powerpoint users, you will need a little re-learning when you meet Impress, the Open Office version of Powerpoint (everything good except for its embarrassing lack of templates.)

When all is said and done, the advantages simply outweigh the negatives and simply put, there isn’t much the little Eee can’t do. I found web browsing a breeze and I am particularly impressed with the 701’s ability to play every video I threw at it – no asking for some missing codec or similar rubbish.

I was so impressed with the Eee that I purchased the Eee PC 900, the follow-up to the 701. With its 8.9 inch screen, bigger flash memory, smarter keypad and yet retaining a low weight of 0.99 kg, it is now perfect. Until of course the launch of the all new Eee PC 901, 1000 and 1000(H) (with faster Atom processor, 7 hours of battery life!).

There is a real danger, however, that the Eee will soon become a much less attractive proposition. Asus, while trying to meet the already growing competition head-on, is producing more Eees with bigger screens and bigger memory – and bigger prices. When this happens (the 900 is already RM500 more expensive than the 701), it places the trend-starting Eee in direct competition with “normal” notebooks with 40-80gb harddisks and bigger screens, at the same price level. This will surely spell the end of the tiny Eee’s wonderful journey into the hearts and minds of thousands of computer users the world over.
